President Obama displays his true colors: Dictatorship-Red!

Many states in 2011 confront significant problems in balancing their budgets.  Foremost among the problems that they must confront are out-of-control pension and health care benefits for public sector employees. These unfunded benefits often are the legacies of weak government failing to confront powerful and well-organized public sector unions.

Now in one sense public sector unions are anomalies under conditions of democracy. For the voters are supposed to control their own government. Public sector workers are free to express their preferences through the ballot box. And should be expected to accede to the electoral outcome with respect to the labor market that they choose to occupy.  In reality, of course, public sector employees tend to be less vulnerable to market forces, more secure in their occupations, and much better positioned to exert additional pressure in order to secure pay and other benefit differentials over their private sector compatriots. Water runs downhill. Selfish public sector employees unionize in order to take full advantage of their already privileged positions.

So  attention turns to the State of Wisconsin, whose electorate has turned decisively away from the progressive socialism of the past and has elected a Republican Governor, Scott Walker and a 19-14 Republican legislative majority, primarily to resolve the long-term unsustainable fiscal position of the State.  The new Governor has initiated emergency legislation designed to close a $137 million deficit in the current budget and a projected $3.6 billion deficit over the next two years.

The Governor’s proposal would allow collective bargaining over public sector employees’ wages, but not over pensions and health care. Public sector workers would be required to pay more for both pensions and health care. Pay raises would be limited to the inflation rate unless voters approved steeper increases. In order to stymie the democratic process, all 14 Democratic senators have fled the State, denying the legislature the necessary quorum (20) to vote on the measure. At most, this will delay, but not eventually abort, the measure’s passage into law.

One would have thought that a United States President would allow the State of Wisconsin to complete its own electorally-supported business while, perhaps, applauding the Governor and the legislative majority for its serious-minded attempt to re-route the state from economic ruin. Not so!  President Obama driven apparently by a witches’ cauldron of socialist ideology and electoral opportunism, has stepped into Wisconsin state politics both vocally and organizationally, in a major attempt the frustrate the democratic process and to push Wisconsin yet more sharply down the road to fiscal ruin.

‘Some of what I’ve heard coming out of Wisconsin , where they’re making it harder for public employees to collectively bargain generally seems more of an assault on unions’  Obama told a Milwaukee television reporter, taking the unusual step of inviting a local station into the White House for a sit-down interview.  ‘I think everybody’s got to make some adjustments, but I think it’s also important to recognize that public employees make enormous contributions to our states and our citizens.’  President Obama naturally did not mention that public sector employees also made enormous contributions to his 2008 presidential campaign chest.

The President did not rest his case on words alone. The White House political operation, Organizing for America, became involved on February 14, 2011 after Obama’s Democratic National Committee Chairman, ‘Red’ Timothy Kaine, energized union leaders in Madison, Wisconsin.  Together the President and the DNC Chairman worked their way through state and national lists to mobilize mobs for political rallies against the Wisconsin Governor and  legislature throughtout the rest of the week.  Public sector employees have abandoned their work responsibilities without cause – and one suspects without any loss of pay – to attack the democratic process in Wisconsin.

We know full well how the Western media reacted when Hosni Mubarek attempted such tactics to beat out potential democracy in Egypt. Well the American people now have a replica of such behavior led by their own President in the Land of the Free. Will one see, I wonder, the same kind of regime destructive media response in the case of repressive behavior launched by their beloved  ‘Messiah’?

The protests by public unions in Wisconsin are a wake up call for all taxpayers. It is time for taxpayers to form a union to fight this oppression. Unlike most labor unions, membership in the the taxpayer union will be voluntary. Dues will be voluntary, not coerced. The taxpayer union will fight for freedom from oppression of the unholy alliance between public unions and politicians. We will implement market-based salaries and benefits for all public employees. We will save government from bankruptcy and from itself.

Looking at the Wisconsin situation from a slightly different perspective, several things come to mind:

    (a) the unionized public sector workers are protesting based on their own self interest. However, if someone else was acting in their own self interest, union types substitute the term “greed” for self interest. Hence what is good for the goose is surely good for the gander and hence the protestors are acting out of greed. Doesn’t sound very pleasant does it?

    (b) unionized collective bargaining in the public sector is always framed as bargaining against the government. And when things don’t go the way the union likes, they frame the government, bureaucratic management, or some specific politico as bargaining in bad faith. In reality the collective bargaining public sector union is bargaining against every tax payer. That is, the transfer payment known as tax is the only thing that causes the entity “government” to exist. Hence the union is in essence collective bargaining against YOU. Doesn’t sound very pleasant does it?
